FAQs

What is coaching?

Coaching is a dynamic partnership that empowers you to explore your inner world, gain deeper self-awareness, and chart a path to meaningful success. Through intentional inquiry, I’ll guide you in uncovering insights and crafting strategies that are authentically yours. As your coach, I’m your thought partner—providing support, feedback, and practical tools to help you clarify your goals and navigate your journey with confidence and purpose. Together, we’ll ensure your actions are aligned with what truly matters to you, enabling you to live with greater intention and fulfillment.

How is it different than consulting?

Consulting is the process of engaging with an expert who offers specific advice, solutions, and strategies based on their specialized knowledge. Unlike coaching, consulting provides direct recommendations to address particular challenges. Coaching, on the other hand, is a partnership where you, the client, is the expert of your life. My job is to reflect, dive deeper, and help you envision and create the life you want to have.

How is it different than therapy?

While therapy can and does use coaching techniques, therapy generally focuses on mental health issues (including psychopathology and mental health disorders), the processing and healing of emotions, and leverages the past to understand the present. Coaching is primarily focused on the present and future, is action-oriented, and is designed to support psychologically healthy individuals in their pursuit of desired future end states such as happiness, success, wellness, or other goals. While coaching is action-oriented, helping clients explore their personal values, sense of meaning, and strengths is also a primary goal of coaching.

What is my responsibility?

As a coaching client, your responsibility is to engage actively with a clear idea of what you want to work on, even if it evolves. Come to each session with an open mind, ready to explore and reflect on your thoughts and behaviors. Honesty and openness are crucial for us to work effectively together.

Be willing to self-reflect, consider new perspectives, and try different approaches, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. Outside of our sessions, it’s important to take proactive steps toward your goals by applying what we've discussed and following through on your action plans. Your commitment is key to making meaningful progress.

Are all coaches certified?

Anyone can claim to be a coach, because you do not need a professional license to be a coach. However, there are certifications in coaching, and most coaches hired by reputable professional organizations must be certified via a program accredited by the ICF (International Coaching Federation). An ICF Credential is a professional certification indicating that a coach has met specific standards and requirements designed to develop and refine their coaching skills, and is dedicated to upholding strong principles of ethical behavior in coaching, as well as ensuring their skills are regularly enriched and up to date.

What else should I know?

Change is hard - if it was easy, we would all be able to do it. People come to me when change feels difficult, and they need the focused time, support, and attention to tackle problems that are preventing them from thriving. Starting to work with a coach represents a powerful commitment to yourself. You’re choosing to invest in your growth, face challenges head-on, and create the life you truly want. As your coach, I’m here to provide the guidance, encouragement, and accountability you need to navigate this journey.
